I'm an academic and activist living and working in the North West of the UK. Over the last 8 years I've been involved in campaigning and researching around a range of social and environmental issues including participation in anti-roads actions, Reclaim The Streets events and numerous local initiatives - squatting, video production, workers education initiatives etc.

I am also a founder member of the workers co-op Shifting Ground
http://www.shiftingground.org which was established two years ago to foster interaction between activists, intellectuals and the academy. Most of our work in this area has involved hosting two day, ironically titled 'talkshop' events where activists/academics interested in a particular issue (Genetics for example) gather to discuss strategy/philosophy/politics/tactics etc. The
aim being to facilitate encounters between people who might not have already met, so avoiding an event attended solely by 'the usual suspects' and
broadening connections across our networks.

The focus of my research at the moment is an attempt to understand something of the emergent qualities that arise from complex interactions in social movement networks. This brings together my interest in social movements, anarchism and the contemporary complexity sciences. I have recently written an article for the 10th anniversary edition of anarchist studies that
outtlines these issues and whilst it's not on the web at the moment I can make it available to anyone interested. I am also currently involved in a
radical publishing project 'We Are Everywhere: the irresistible rise of global anti-capitalism' -  http://www.WeAreEverywhere.org some of which may
be of interest to other people on the list.

In solidarity,

Graeme
