Informal University in Foundation
Informelle Universität in Gründung, 19.07.2004 15:27
slumming The Informal University in Foundation [IU] is an initiative from students of the Technical University Berlin and has emerged f8rom the student protests during the wintersemester 2003/2004. We try to stimulate critical discussions about societal structures in general and from an architectural point of view; we are working on ideas concerning our working and social environment now and in the future.

Our contribution to the student protests was the action called “Aktive Verslummung – Berlin wird Weltstadt” (“active slumming – berlin becomes cosmopolitan”). Starting from the forecourt of the TU-Berlin at the Ernst-Reuter Platz, trash huts were built in order to serve as an informal protest university. In the follow up huts were spread at neuralgic spots of the city intending to provoke debates by causing irritation .

Research on Anarchism
, 07.07.2004 04:40
Research on Anarchism is an interactive website and data base in English, French, and Italian, of articles, dissertations, theses and bibliographies related to
art, cinema, music, literature, politics, philosophy, and history. It includes brief biographies and texts by leading contemporary and historical writers.
There are also links to full text political writings when these are available. Other features of the site include online discussion forums and news on contemporary relevant events.

There are many pictures of anarchism, the rejection of all forms of domination ... Anarchism appears as a political theory and a social movement in the nineteenth century. For some people it is an ethical choice, for others a certain artistic perspective,
a form of culture, or a utopia. It can even be seen - in a more sophisticated way - as a possible epistemological paradigm.

CASA: Cultural Analysis Summer Academy
john, 03.04.2004 15:47
poster First CASA meeting on Acting & Spectating

It seems to be a given that academics do traditionally think. But in the past and the present many scholars have seen themselves confronted with the tension between what we see/think and what we do/want to do. This tension has not been resolved, but has become even more pertinent recently. The two concepts "Acting" and "Spectating" conceptualize this tension, and this is why we chose them as the theoretical concepts of the first CASA meeting.

'Dissent! A Network of Resistance' 7-8 Feb
Mike, 10.12.2003 10:40
A new network has been launched, and so a new experiment in collective leadership begins.

“Developing new ways of working together, new forms of relationships, is a way to get rid of leaders. As opposed to getting rid of leadership which is a learnable skill not a person” ( ‘Think Globally, Act Locally, Be Personally’, Nottingham Earth First! 1998 ).

Conference/Meeting About Social Movements and Activist Research

1. Presentation

This meeting have as its objective to establish a space of encounter, exchange, self-formation and debate from the "social movements" (SM) in relation to activist research/investigation.

We are conscious of the fact that the word "social movement" is argued over, so, in order to avoid misunderstandings, what we mean by Social Movements in the contest of this meeting is: those collectives, organizations and groups that from forms of organization that are not institutionalized work for social transformation from a critical perspective of collective emancipation.

We believe that the central, most important part of the meeting falls in the participating subjectivities of activist research, realized from/for social movements. We are critical of academic research that studies SM like a mere object of to be known.

We invite to participate all of those people and collectives that are interested in (re)creating, (re)thinking, (re)inventing and (re)appropriating of these knowledge and of the formation from the focus on "activist research/investigation". We are not hoping for a local encounter, since already taking root in the globalization of dynamics of production, command and coercion, we believe that we need to strengthen networks of interchange and exchange much beyond the borders and boundaries constituted by the confines of States, in order that we can (co)learn from one another, so that we can define shared lines of intervention without this taking place at the cost of establishing a local coordination between the distinct experiences of activist research/investigation.

Finally, we hope that the conference auto-constitute itsefs as a-disciplinary in order that we overcome the fictitious academicism distinctions/divisions.
