Mark, Hugo, and All,

I'm grateful for this dialog on CASA.. I am caught up in many issues,
and cannot stay abreast of them all. To that end, the original
postings were helpful.

I feel as Mark says, that it is very hard to take a side (a
practical, not a moral side) from such a distance. I guess what I
mean by that is that I can't lay blame and offer reasonable
solutions to a situation I can only imagine in horror. I don't
consider violence rational - witness Bush's apparent acceptance of
this latest turn and his misunderstandings in "Stop that Shit!", but
I do have very strong feelings that Israel is sometimes unfairly
blamed for being surrounded by those who condone some of the violence
but not a violent response that is greater than "proportionality
would warrant." Proportionality suggests rational behavior -
proportionality in killing non-combatant humans is an oxymoron. Once
you've loosed the violence, in all its ugliness, no one really
controls rationally anymore. And I don't think any people, as a
monolithic group, has a corner on non-violence.

love and peace to all the earth's people, jeanne
